Nollywood Actor, Politician Desmond Elliot and wife pictured going for his inauguration as member of the Lagos state House of Assembly. He will officially be part of the Lagos state House of Assembly from today. Congrats to him.
Timaya is one of the many Nigerian showbiz stars whose endorsement contracts were not renewed for another year by Nigeria’s leading telecoms firm, MTN. In a recent interview with Punch, Timaya explained why he rejected the new deal, saying it wasn’t right for him. ‘I have always wanted to become an ambassador to a telecommunications company and I was approached by both Globacom and MTN.
I chose MTN. I am a businessman and I feel I should have a better deal this year. If the deal is not good enough for me, then it is not right because I worked very hard to get to the stage I am, the Bayelsa State-born act began. Speaking further, he said: ‘It could be right for other people but I think I should do better this year. There are some artistes that are brand ambassadors and they do not have any hit song. They are just there based on pity. Every year, I release a hit song and I feel if we are to renew a contract, we have to revisit the terms and conditions. Not that we would do the same thing as the last time or do it out of pity.
Being a brand ambassador makes you limited in some certain areas and I expect to be paid for such limitations. I want more. They are good people and we did not have any misunderstanding. It was purely a business decision.’ MTN renewed deals with other showbiz stars like Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Iyanya, Kcee and others but also left out a number of stars including the self-styled Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa….
Davido’s H.O.D (Head of department), Olusegun Ojuola said: ‘Well, it’s really a long journey, because it’s through the help of Dr Deji Adeleke that the department was developed over three and half years ago. But we actually started admitting (students) in 2012.’ Ojuola added that the department currently has a total of 27 students and he didn’t fail to note that he foresees a boom in the number of students in the next session set to begin in September.
‘The department is growing, right now, the population is 27, and I’m expecting a kind of population explosion this next admission year because the number of students within the university that have shown interest to transfer from their departments to Music is overwhelming. We also have students transferring from other university like Bells, Bowen, OAU and others.’ He went on to boast about the facilities at the department, saying: ‘I’m not boasting but with the facilities we have, you can’t find its match at another university running a degree programme in Music. NUC also testifies to it, our studio is hi-tech.’…
The VC was peaking while presenting Davido’s certificate to him at the ongoing 13th convocation ceremony of the institution, with the music star’s father, who was sitting in the VIP area all the while, coming to the podium to take pictures with him while he received his certificate.
During the presentation, the VC joked: ‘If you pay N200 million, you can be up here taking pictures with your son.’ Of course it was a joke but the words would seem to be true as Davido is the only graduating student that had the privilege of taking pictures with not just his dad but also the VC on the podium at the graduation ceremony….
Recently, Nigeria’s singer and self acclaimed Bagalee, D’banj, celebrated his 10 years anniversary in the music industry where he pulled large crowd of people turning up for the event with
guest invite, America’s model and vixen, Amber Rose.
The singer speaking with Vangurad about his journey so far amidst his celebration says the high point of his career was when he was opportune to give a speech at the World Bank Tedex in 2014, which had nothing to do with music.
D’banj boasted that he has always prayed that he does not end up as just as an entertainer but to be the best to come out of Africa which is gradually manifesting.
According to him, “My first single came out October 2004 .My first album was released in March 2005 and as at that time I always say I was an entertainer and I hoped and prayed that I will be the biggest to come out of Africa. I will be a businessman; you know you always have different types of dreams. It’s been a great journey in 10 years and when I count my blessings, I see that God has been so faithful. There are places that I have been to, that I never thought about. Though, I dream big, I have performed on some stages I never thought I would dare to.”
“The high point of my career will be last year when I gave a speech at the World Bank Tedex. That for me was different ,because it had nothing to do with music. Being on that platform with those caliber of people, showed that you are not just an artiste, but also representing a generation,” he says.
